Love the varied character of natural materials provided by Mother Earth.

What can beat granite counters as a natural material that is durable and stain resistant? Try quartzite. Quartzite is a natural quarried stone countertop that is incredibly dense, even harder than granite and with a similar look to marble but with all the practicality of a granite top. So beautiful and ideal for a Kitchen counter, like this White Macaubas quartzite that I am eager to see installed in the Kitchen of one of the homes I am working on.

Granite counters don’t have to be polished. There are great varied textures available in granites now. I love using granite countertops with a leathered finish, like this Verde Italia granite countertop I used in a home recently. It has a very soft hand with a subtle undulated texture. Also look for a smooth honed matte finish available in many granites now.

Another one of my favorite countertop materials is soapstone. There is something very soft and luxurious about this natural material and the talc surface it has. See how great it looks as the countertops in my favorite Laundry Room remodel.
